Vietnam Visa on arrival or pre-arranged visa has been online for almost 15 years, and it increasingly becomes the most convenient way to get a visa to Vietnam as everything has been made simple from the procedure to payment methods. You now can get your visa to Vietnam in couple of minutes with your internet accessed computers or wifi built-in mobile phones.

Why should I apply online instead of going to the embassy?

Each visa application option offers you some advantage. Visa-on-arrival is especially beneficial for those who live far away from the Vietnamese embassies and do not wish to send their passports away by mail. The other advantages of VOA include faster processing, cost-saving (Vietnam Visa fee) and more efficient payment methods.

1. Getting a visa on arrival

Again, please check the complete information on visa on arrival. Visa on arrival works for both business men and tourists.

2. Getting a visa at Vietnamese embassy

The process of getting a business visa or a tourist visa is generally the same. Most tourists get their visa through a Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate office in their country of residence or in their travels country before entering Vietnam.

For a tourist visa, you will need to submit:

1) Entry permit form (which can vary from one Vietnamese embassies or consulate abroad to another).
2) Two photos (usually 4cm x 6cm or 3 cm x 4 cm)
3) Your original passport
4) Vienam Visa fee

The form and the fee can vary by country, so please check directly the Vietnamese embassy or consulate to which you are applying.

A business visa usually also requires a letter of support from your sponsor agency or company in Vietnam. In person, the process usually takes 2-3 days, and by mail, the process usually takes 2-3 weeks, depending on the service you use, although times can vary considerably by embassy or consulate. If you are mailing, please note that you need to make arrangements to have your passport with visa returned to you.

For assistance, you can process your visa through a travel agency or tour company in Vietnam, with an additional fee, although this is not usually necessary unless you need visa on arrival services.

On 22 Nov 2016, Vietnam National Assembly passed the resolution on piloting the issuance of e-visas for foreigners. The e-visa pilot scheme will be effective for 2 years, starting from 01 Feb 2017.

E-visas will be issued by Vietnam Immigration Department via digital transactions and will be applied to 1 month (30 days), single entry. Expected processing time is 3 working days and processing fee is paid online, non-refundable.

The Vietnamese government is working to decide which nationalities will become eligible for the program and which Vietnamese border gates will allow foreigners to enter by e-visas.

The new type of visa is expected to ease the immigration procedure for tourists and boost the domestic tourism, following the extension of visa exemption for citizens of the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
